Chondroitin sulfate to treat arthritis

Chondroitin sulfate to treat arthritis

Chondroitin - is another important component of cartilage. It acts as a shock absorber by providing structure, holding water and nutrients and allowing other molecules to move through the cartilage. Chondroitin is found in and around the cartilage cells and it has been suggested that this supplement may help repair some of the damaged joint. Chondroitin sulphate also has some innate anti-inflammatory properties, independent of prostaglandin synthesis. Both compounds are natural and may be beneficial in the treatment of osteoarthritis .

Chondroitin was well tolerated by the patients and it acts as structural modulators. Chondroitin sulphate improves cartilage function and is a popular nutritional supplements for the management of arthritis. These products are composed of large molecules and are very difficult to absorb.

Chondroitin sulfate is one of the most abundant . Chondroitin is derived from bovine sources. Trace minerals are known to be essential for many body functions. Chondroitin is a long chain polysaccharide extracted from animal (bovine, chicken, pig, shark, whale) cartilage. Purity varies widely, but some animal protein is nearly always present.

Chondroitin Sulfates alone have been found to be effective for osteoarthritis sufferers. Often just the glucosamine or chondroitin are used by themselves.

Chondroitin is also one of the products necessary for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans. But it probably plays a more important role by combating and neutralizing destructive enzymes in the joint. Chondroitin is a protein made up of negatively charged chains of sugar molecules that attract fluid into the proteoglycan molecules and repel each other. This fluid helps absorb the impact of movement like a sponge. Chondroitin sulfate is another natural substance found in the body. It prevents other body enzymes from degrading the building blocks of joint cartilage.

Chondroitin sulfates act like "liquid magnets". It helps attract fluid into the proteoglycan molecules. Chondroitin sulfate is at least 50 to 300 times larger than glucosamine sulfate, too large to pass the normal intact intestinal barrier. Chondroitin Sulfate (CS) is a complex molecule that is found in high concentrations in joints and connective tissue. CS contains vital connective tissue components such as glucuronic acid and uronic acid along with copious amounts of glucosamine and galactosamine sulfate.

Chondroitin sulfates inhibit free radicals that may degrade joint cartilage and collagen, while supporting blood circulation to joints to enable antioxidants and glucosamine to enter inflamed joints to support joint health and flexibility. Chondroitin sulfate is a component of cartilage. It is mainly composed of repeated chains of glucosamine sulfate.

Chondroitin sulfate is part of a large protein molecule (proteoglycan) that gives cartilage elasticity. MSM is a source of biological sulfur, which is a major component in many of the bodys proteins, tissues, hormones and enzymes. Chondroitin contains only a small number of sulfate ester groups whereas chondroitin sulfates have more. The latter have a high viscosity and a capability for binding water, and in connective tissue apparently performs similarly to that of hyaluronic acid (a glycosaminoglycan/mucopolysaccharide which is component of the ground substance of intercellular material, containing D-glucuronic acid and acetyl glucosamine).

Chondroitin sulfate is part of a large protein molecule (proteoglycan) that gives cartilage elasticity. The most common side effects are increased intestinal gas and softened stools. Chondroitin is also included in the formulation, as it works synergistically with the glucosamine to help renew and repair cartilage, and maintain the lubricating properties of fluids around the joints. Jointace? Chondroitin & Glucosamine contains a special high quality LMW (low molecular weight ) form of chondroitin.Jointace? Chondroitin & Glucosamine tablets also provide ginger, an extract used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years and well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, together with vitamin C, an antioxidant and co-factor in the production of collagen. The UK Arthritis Association favours an approach to healthy joints which includes diet and nutritional supplementation, herbal and homeopathic remedies, and manipulative therapy.

Chondroitin/glucosamine supplements are generally used, for example, by people who have arthritis or, perhaps, who are at risk of developing arthritis. It is supposed to help assist the growth of or nourish articular cartilage and, in doing so, help reduce joint pain. Chondroitin is typically sold as chondroitin sulfate. In December 1999 and January 2000, ConsumerLab.com tested 25 brands of glucosamine, chondroitin and combination products and found that (a) all 10 glucosamine-only products, passed the test but 2 chondroitin-only and 6 out of 13 combination products did not (because their chondroitin levels were too low). Chondroitin supplementation is probably not necessary.

Chondroitin sulphate is extracted from animal cartilage such as tracheas or shark cartilage. Chondroitin/glucosamine supplements are very helpful, too.
